Understanding Modern English: Holograms, Posthumous Performances, and Digital Alterations

Modern technology has made it possible for deceased singers to return to the stage through the use of holograms. These holograms can perform both old hits and new songs, but not everyone is a fan of this technology.

Tupac Shakur was the first artist to perform posthumously at the Coachella Music Festival in 2012. Since then, many other deceased artists, such as Frank Zappa and Amy Winehouse, have been brought back to the stage. Some people find these performances unsettling and question whether they truly honor the artists or are just clever ways to generate profit.

Pop star Selena Quintanilla passed away in 1995, but her family has released 24 albums since her death. On her latest album, her voice was digitally altered to sound older. In a documentary about celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, filmmakers used modern technology to make him say things he never actually said.

  1. Holograms: 3D images created by technology to show people or objects.

  2. Posthumously: Happening after someone has died.

  3. Unsettling: Causing discomfort or worry.

  4. Digitally Altered: Changed using computer technology.
